When should I start 11+ preparation for my child?

We suggest startting early. Starting in Year 3 or Year 4 can give children time to build strong foundations and gradually strengthen their problem-solving and reasoning skills without unnecessary pressure. Year 5 can then focus more on exam-style practice, timing and identifying areas that need further attention.

Which year groups does BrightStart 11+ support?

We currently support children in Year 3, Year 4 and Year 5. The level and focus of preparation are adapted to the child’s year group and stage of learning.

What is the difference between 11+ preparation package and Core package on BrightStart learn

11+ Preparation is specifically designed for children preparing for the 11+ examination. It provides access to 11+ style questions and practice across English, Maths, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning, with content designed to develop the skills needed for 11+ preparation.
Core Subjects is designed for children who want to strengthen their general school learning in English and Maths at their year-group level. The questions are aligned to the child’s year group rather than being specifically focused on 11+ exam preparation.

When should my child start taking 11+ mock tests?

Mock tests are most useful when your child has developed a reasonable foundation in the key 11+ topics. For a child in Year 5, we generally recommend introducing mock tests gradually from April rather than waiting until the final weeks before the exam. Early tests can help identify areas for improvement, while later tests can place greater emphasis on exam-style conditions, timing and overall performance.
